The Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) was founded in the 1800s and continues to be a worldwide movement of people seeking to fulfill God’s desire for the church. We are committed to studying the Word of God and faithfully living it out.
We are committed to being the body of Christ in spirit, word, and deed. We commit ourselves to the mission that Jesus Christ gave every believer: to make disciples of all peoples. We seek to love and serve all people, beginning with those within our sphere of activity and influence.
The current church at 7623 Wilcox was founded on May 14, 1957, a prayer meeting was held in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Dye at 1114 Hawaii Drive, which was the initial beginning of the present congregation of First Church of God in El Paso.
There were 9 present the first Sunday. The first year, the Sunday school averaged 22 in attendance, for the second year 31. Services were continued in the pastor’s home until the building was completed in April of 1957.
We are indebted to Mr. Joe Yarborough, local contractor, and to Bro. J. H. Meyer, of Sweetwater, Texas.
Sister Mary Wilson, our oldest member is one of the founding members.
The present church building would not have been possible without the support of a wonderful congregation. We are grateful for the opportunity of being a “home” to numerous servicemen and their families, who have been station here.
In February 2012, Reverend Terrence Jolliff accepted the church’s invitation to be the Pastor of First Church of God. In October 2012, the church was renamed New Hope Church of God and added to the church ministries were a men’s bible study, women’s bible study, children’s church, nursery, and food pantry. The church is filled with God’s hope.
New families have arrived, the laughter of little children fill the air, and God’s people are being fed and they are growing. New Hope Church of God has responded to the needs of the community and the church. We are fulfilling our role to God and this community and once again we are a vital part of the El Paso community in this area.
New Hope Church of God will continue to grow in this community as we strive to finish the work of our Father and to reach out to anyone who needs help and as we confirm that since you are a believer and you have been washed in the blood of Christ, you are a member of God’s family and His church.
May God Bless you all.
